We have now begun the journey towards more sustainable products at Guideline, and this rod series will show the way for future fly rod production. We have worked hard, and on the detail, to do everything possible to make these rods the best choice for anglers who care about the environment.

The new blank development process removes any unnecessary material from every section. It also lets us monitor the energy in every part of the blank far more precisely than before. These rods are extremely light and sensitive (the 9' #5 is 72 g / 2.53 oz) and yet they are the strongest standard rods we have ever built. Overall, the rods have a sensitive, protective tip that is very stable and crisp, with a smooth progressive curve further down the blank and a powerful butt section.

The action is easy to cast and produces accurate casts at high line speed. The rods have great line feel and load easily for every kind of cast. In short, these are the best modern rods, with a light touch and an action that suits anglers of every level.

ROD MODELS

Elevation 9 ft #4-5-6: the 4 and 5 wt rods are classic trout rods for dry flies, nymphs and lighter streamers. The 6 wt is the choice for bigger flies, bigger fish and windier conditions.

Elevation 9 ft #7-8-9: classic rods for heavier fishing after steelhead, pike, salmon, sea trout and bonefish. These rods suit fishing on rivers, lakes, coastlines and flats where big fish and demanding conditions are the norm. Balance and weight unmatched in rods of this category.

Elevation 9'9" #6-7-8: rods built for fishing both lake and river after trout, sea trout and salmon. The new 9'9" length is the best compromise between 9'6" and 10 ft. It gives you the power of the 9'6" and the reach and distance of the 10 ft. Lighter, crisper and better than the 10-footer.

THE GREENER DETAILS

Matt blanks, lightly polished with no added colouring, which gives them a dark graphite grey look. Any excess carbon particles are collected in a separate tank before the water passes to the community treatment plant. The blanks have a smooth spiral pattern and a thin, matt coat.
New and improved 3A cork full-wells grips with no rubber cork fillers. This reduces the amount of epoxy resin needed in the grips. Even the lightest rods have a small cork butt, and from the 9' #7 upwards every rod has a full-size fighting butt.
The metal parts of the reel seats are "clear anodised", which is the least toxic process possible when using aluminium reel seats. We use no chrome (lead) or paint in the anodising bath. For the blank coatings, the guides and the assembly glue for the grips and reel seat, we use a low-toxicity bio-based epoxy, tested and approved, with extremely low levels of regulated chemicals. This also makes for a better working atmosphere at the assembly stage of production, keeping fumes hazardous to health to a minimum. The rods are built with lightweight single-foot wire guides and KW-style stripping guides. We use a gunsmoke powder-coat finish on a stainless steel frame. The best sustainable option, still hard and with no chrome plating, which contains lead. The rod bag and the tube cover are made from recycled REPREVE™ polyester. The rod tubes are made from recyclable polypropylene (PP), are lighter and have a diameter 20% smaller than standard PVC tubes. This saves space and money when the rods are transported, both from the factory and by the user. Given its durability and the fact that it can be melted down into plastic granules, PP is reusable and recyclable to produce new products. All the rods are 4-piece.
