After a great deal of study and testing, STROFT is now launching a new 100% fluorocarbon fishing line, STROFT FC2.
Diameters 0.50 mm and 0.60 mm, on 25m spools only. Suited to tippets on predator leaders.
The manufacturer has paid special attention to sensitivity, abrasion and knot strength. Being a line with a certain amount of stretch rather than a “hard” one, that, together with its strength, helps to protect the finest tippets. Stroft is a supple, strong fluorocarbon line.
These new Stroft lines have relatively low memory, especially compared with other fluorocarbon lines, and in the finest diameters too.
Abrasion resistance. Very high abrasion resistance with a low water absorption rate (0.01%); this value stays constant even after several hours submerged, which makes this material ideal for use over aggressive bottoms.
Density. Fluorocarbon is heavier (1.78 g/cm³ as against nylon at 1.14 g/cm³), so it tends to sink. That makes it ideal when you need a strong line that sinks quickly, as in nymph fishing.
Sensitivity. Extreme sensitivity, the result of minimal load-elongation, makes the line particularly useful for detecting takes.
Durability. Very high durability against aggressive substances: UV light, salt water and the rest have virtually no effect, ideal for sea fishing and wherever there are high levels of solar radiation.
Visibility. The refractive index of fluorocarbon is 1.42 against 1.58 for nylon, and as a result it is closer to that of water, which is 1.33. For this reason it is less visible to the human eye when submerged in clear water.
