AUSTRIA - YBBS River - Accommodation and Fly Fishing with Guide

In The Fly Center, we have everything ready so you can fish in different destinations both within Spain and abroad.

In this destination, we wanted to offer a different Austria to what is known by many Spanish anglers. We will not travel to the Austrian rivers of its southern zone near Italy in Mitersill or Innsbruck, with most of the repopulated rivers based on cisterns. We would rather choose am awesome wild river that flows into the Danube and whose rainbows are born wild in its waters.

The river Ybbs is a short Austrian river that runs through the state of Lower Austria, in the northeast of the country. The name Ybbs is also used to refer to the small town of Ybbs an der Donau.

The source of the river is in the Zellerrain Pass near Mariazell. In its initial área, the river is called Weiße Ois, then from the border between Lower Austria and Styria to Lunz am See is called Ois, and from there to the mouth of the Danube in Ybbs an der Donau, the Ybbs.

The Ybbs has a strong meandering course and flows for about 130 km from the south in a northerly direction through the Ybbs valley or Ybbstal.

The Ybbs River is a crystalline river that harbors large populations of Brown trout, rainbows and grayling in sizes between 30 and 50 cms ( sometimes reaching even more than 60 cm). They are fish that attack easily to a well presented dry fly. It represents a dream for the fly angler, fly fishing is the only fishing modality allowed. It is a river of an average width between 15 and 20 meters, alternating wells of turquoise waters with shallow places.
During the best moments of the season (from May to October) it has prolific hatching of caddis and a great variety of mayflies.
We will fish private reserves of the Ybbs next to Opponitz.

Ybbs is a river that seems to have been designed to fly fish because it has everything a fly angler can dream.

Anglers will stay in the villa Oppnitz located just 200 meters from the river and very close to all the fishing spots. You will enjoy excellent local cuisine and a fantastic service.
